Howard Fast, writer, New York

My own feeling about the Soviet Union is of less importance than the feelings of millions of Americans. Therefore I say what I feel in the hope that it will convince some of our people that the Soviet Union is a mightly bulwark of peace, and for the advancement of all mankind.

To me, the Soviet Union has always been the workers' republic, the final achievement of mankind in its struggle to end oppression. Ever since I can remember the mighty structure of socialist power that comprises the Soviet Union has given me hope and confidence in the future of all peoples. Here is the solidification of the best dreams of mankind.

Author of the novels Spartacus, Freedom Road, Citizen Tom Paine, The Last Frontier. Fast was imprisoned for refusing to surrender the records and contributors' lists of the Joint Anti-Fascist Refugee Committee to the House un-American committee.
