text of the souvenir sheet and translation Antoine de Saint-Exupéry Ecrivain et aviateur français Antoine de Saint-Exupéry fait son service militaire dans l'aviation avant d'entrer, en 1926, à l'Aéropostale. Son premier roman, 'Courier sud', est le fruit de ses premières années d'aviation. De 1929 à 1939, il assure des liens aéropostaux en Argentine, où il se marie. A la même époque, son deuxième roman, 'Vol de nuit', obtient le prix Femina. Après avoir été pilote de guerre, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry s'installe aux Etats-Unis où il écrit son roman le plus célèbre, 'Le Petit Prince'. Il participe au débarquement américain en Afrique du Nord avant de disparaître en avion dans des circonstances qui restent mystérieuses, le 31 juillet 1944. Il laisse un roman inachevé, 'Citadelle', consideré aujourd'hui comme la somme de sa pensée. Saint-Exupéry, humaniste et poète, reste inclassable. French writer and aviator Antoine de Saint-Exupéry did his military service in aviation before joining Aéropostale in 1926. His first novel, 'Southern Mail', is the fruit of his first years in aviation. From 1929 to 1939, he established air-mail lines in Argentina, where he married. At the same time, his second novel, 'Night Flight', won the Femina prize. After having been a fighter pilot, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry settled in the United States where he wrote his most famous novel, 'The Little Prince'. He participated in the American debarkation in North Africa before disappearing in his plane under circumstances which remain mysterious, on July 31, 1944. He left an unfinished novel, 'Citadelle', considered today as the summation of his thought. Saint-Exupéry, humanist and poet, remains unclassifiable.
