The creators of the mega-expos I was 20 in '45 and I don't like culture
have reset the table for a gigantic theatrical — Simenon... a century!
Gala Opening on February 14, in Liège

Simenon on Stage

The event is shaping up to be grandiose – a biographcial fresco covering over 25,000 square feet, leading the visitor through a 3-dimensional course centered around 13 themes... to reveal Simenon's life, work, and era. Remember, the promoters (Euroculture) are champions of 'educational and fun spectacles' – but displaying great scientific rigor – and that in 1993 they produced a Tout Simenon Expo (chronological, not thematic like this one) crowned with success.

A small preview... In a 1900 square we discover the childhood and training years of the prolific writer. We then embark on a liner alongside Gide and Hemingway... to live the great commentaries of the son of Liège. Maigret's office is here, of course, but also the settings of other famous fictional sleuths – the apartment of Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot's compartment on the Orient Express, the morgue of Medical Examiner Kay Scarpetta, etc. The universe of his novels, film sets, his writing rituals and his relations with women are the subjects of productions and reconstructions. As for the famous 'Simenon atmosphere', here it is! You arrive on a foggy quai... a barge, a canal lock, a gangway... the weather dull and gray... There only remains for you to follow the audio-guide tour through Liège, In the footsteps of Georges Simenon.
