Simenon arrived in Paris on December 14, 1922, at 11:00 at night...
His work at that pace was able to nourish him, even in the Paris of the crazy years, where Simenon received much and learned about himself.
He was a kind of public writer, a machine for pouring out prose on demand for Fayard, Ferenczi, Tallandier, under 15 pseudonyms, more than 200 books, more than 1,000 stories, whimsies for romantic magazines, and other little pieces, in addition to his "Au pont des Arches", the first Sim, written at age 16½ in Liège.
From his difficult debuts in Paris, croissants and camemberts and then... money.
But he was still just a poor man's Balzac, the other in gestation. He traveled much, notably by boat on the canals of western Europe, France, Belgium, and Holland...
