On the menu of the Simenon Festival

The great expo which opens its doors on Thursday, February 13, is without a doubt the major event of the centenary, for being both educational and entertaining. And to make a visit to "Simenon... a century", for a guide, the writer himself, or at least his voice. It bids us go by steamer, to a square, Chief Inspector Maigret's office at a quay, over the gangway of a barge, a canal lock and of course, mist and fog. These setting and many others - a cinema hall, a film set – lead us to the discovery of Simenon's genius in a thematic fashion, not chronological as was the case in 1993 ce at the Expo "Tout Simenon", also by Euroculture. The themes of this event, installed across 2500 square yards at the heart Liege, number 13 – the first steps towards writing, travels as sources of inspiration for Simenon but also Céline, Malraux, Hemingway, the birth of Maigret, detective heroes like Maigret, Nestor Burma, Hercule Poirot..., Simenon's actual œuvre, his adaptation to film, his relationships with women, his rituals of writing and those of Duras, Sartre, Troyat... From Simenon, the expo opens itself thus to the literary world just as it opens onto the city of Liege since the last theme touched on is that of the influence of his native city. The exposition is furthermore the point of departure for an audiogruide tour of the city.

Until September 30 at the Tivoli space, a temporary structure installed between Place Saint-Lambert and Place du Marché, at Liege. Everyday from 10:00 to 6:00, and Friday evenings. Info 02-412.58.58. Reservations: reservations@euroculture.bel

In the steps of Simenon

From the expo "Simenon... a century" begins the new trail which has us uncover the Liege of the author. Only thanks to the centenary can we see the room in which Simenon lived and the locale of the Caque, the merry band of anarchists joined by the young reporter of the Gazette de Liege». Interactive milestones and audioguides will present the tour of the living Liege. Another way to discover the city. You should know that during the period of the expo, little "playlets" evoking Simenon's life are performed every Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the places he'd lived.

Admission and payment for entrance to the expo "Simenon ... a Century", located at the Tivoli space.

Simenon and Josephine

The Royal Opera of Wallonie presents a musical comedy evoking the Paris of the mad years, of the love affair of Simenon and Josephine Baker.

September 25, 26, 27, 28 and 30 at the Forum, 14 Rue Pont d'Avroy, Liege.

Simenon, a 20th Century Legend

This is the title of the official catalogue of the expo, a simple and passionate work by Danielle Bajomée. The Director of the Center for Georges Simenon Studies proceeds, in understandable language, on a complete analysis of Simenon, his work, his universe, his characters. We find as well numerous photographs and unpublished documents. This book, from Renaissance du Livre (192 p, 35 euros), is obviously not the only one to come out on the occasion of the centenary. We note as well "[To Write the Man]" by Michel Lemoine, from Gallimard, "[Liege color Simenon]" (Cefal), "[The Scoops of Simenon, Georges Sim at the Gazette de Liege]" (Luc Pire). And how can we fail to mention the reedition of all Simenon's novels and stories under his own name, in 25 volumes of some 25 000 pages. This from Presses de la Cité which, in their Omnibus series, takes the credit!!
