And again in 1932, Harry Baur was Maigret in "[A Man's Head]" by Julien Duvivier.
In 1942, Albert Préjean appeared in Richard Pottier's "Picpus".
In 1958, Jean Gabin played in "[Maigret Sets a Trap]" by Jean Delannoy. (He would also do "[Maigret and the Saint-Fiacre Affair]" and "[Maigret Sees Red]").
In 1967, Gino Cervi in "[Maigret in Pigalle" by Mario Landi.
Some English, a Russian, a Japanese, a German, a Dutchman, but not a single Belgian.
Maigret was played by actors from the whole world: the Englishmen Charles Laughton, Richard Harris, and Rupert Davies (the television favorite), the Russian Boris Tenine, the Japanese Kinya Aikawa, German Heinz Ruhmann, and the Dutchman Jan Teuling.
But also Frenchmen, like Albert Tarride, Maurice Manson and Michel Simon.
On television, 92 episodes with Jean Richard
In 1967, Jean Richard took up Maigret's hat and pipe... for 92 episodes (out of the 101 written by Simenon). The absolute record for the character.
In 1990 (one year after the death of the master), pushed aside, he gave up the reins to Bruno Cremer, no doubt the most credible in the role. A long series starting off with José Pinheiro's "[Maigret at Picratt's]". Faithful to the Chief Inspector, Cremer continues the series. Next encounter: "[Maigret's Failure]" by Jacques Fansten with Jean-Luc Bideau, February 21 at 8:15pm on RTBF 1.
