My own first venture into the theater had taken place years before, when, together with a young friend, Ray Barr by name, I wrote a light musical comedy called Four Bachelor Brothers, which we produced first in a summer theater and subsequently in the Barrs' living room for Peggy Wood, then a reigning musical comedy star and so dazzling a beauty that Ray Barr and I fell totally in love with her.
